Mark Sanford: The Conservative Case for McCain

In the Wall Stree Journal's Opinion page today, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford made "The Conservative Case for John McCain." Sanford is viewed as one of the very top conservative govnernors in America. Some conservatives wish he would have ran for President.

Sanford has long been a supporter of McCain, but as he mentioned, he "sat out the first half, not endorsing a candidate." Now, he says, "we're at halftime; and the question for conservatives is whether to get off the bench for the second half of the game." He's stepping on to the field for McCain and he believes "it's important that conservatives do the same."

There is a wide margin between John McCain and the two Democrat contenders. As Sanford notes, "Hope alone won't carry us through the shadow of debt."

Is this Sanford's bid for a slot on the ticket? I hope John McCain appreciates the sentiments and puts him on. One might say that ticket would be like Reagan-Bush, in reverse order.
